Safer® Brand Garden Dust with B.t. - How it Works

Safer® Brand Garden Dust kills and controls over 20 common caterpillars and leaf-eating worms using Bacillus Thuringiensis var. Kurstaki (B.t. for short). B.t is a naturally occurring component of the environment that, when ingested by caterpillars, causes them to stop eating within hours and die within a few days. Garden Dust is a highly selective insecticide for use against caterpillar and leaf-eating worm pests, so beneficial insects, such as honey bees, are not harmed when foraging in treated areas.

This ready-to-use powder can be applied directly to affected plants to begin controlling caterpillars as soon as they’re first noticed. Garden Dust is OMRI Listed® and compliant for use in organic gardening, so you can control leaf destroying caterpillars and worms in a way that fits into an organic gardening routine.

Stop Plant Damage From Caterpillars & Worms with B.t.

Leaf-eating caterpillars and worms eat their way through plant foliage and cause irreparable damage to fruits, vegetables, flowers and lawns extremely quickly. Safer® Brand Garden Dust goes to work right away to stop caterpillars from destroying plants.

Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki is a naturally occurring bacterium that kills destructive worm and caterpillar species. Simply apply Garden Dust to the leaves of vegetables, fruits, lawns, flowers and ornamentals so that worms and caterpillars eat the treated vegetation. Once ingested, the bacterium in B.t. stops them from feeding within a few hours. Within a few days, caterpillars and worms will die of malnutrition.

For Use on a Variety of Plants

Caterpillars & worms aren't picky when it comes to leaves to eat. They skeletonize and eat plant leaves of all kinds. Use Garden Dust to kill caterpillars & worms that invade fruit & vegetable crops like broccoli, cabbage, tomatoes, grapes and strawberries. Keep flowers and ornamentals free of leaf damage and looking vibrant. Eliminate worms from causing damage to green lawns.

How to Use Garden Dust

Shake the bottle to ensure the proper mixture and distribution of ingredients before applying. Apply Garden Dust directly to plant foliage when caterpillars are first spotted and repeat applications every 7 to 10 days or as needed. Monitor treated areas for any newly hatched pests as egg hatching can occur over time. Thorough leaf coverage is necessary for effective control.
